Just put your head down and do what have to, to make some good money
Pros
- Meet many new people from all over the globe - If you know how to sell, the company gives you opportunities to make commission on product sold on tour
Cons
- Long hours - Ridiculous tours with no time for passengers to explore - not much support from office staff and managers - I have noted comments about a boys club at Expat Explore here on Glassdoor, and as a female can confirm this is true. Male tour leaders are given the most days on the road and are put on tours which guarantee them more commissions, it can clearly be seen that they are given the cream of the crop! To our misfortune, if female tour leaders have an issue we are told we complain to much, yet the male tour leaders make a complaint and it is looked into an actioned almost immediately! I personally have had a male tour leader laugh at me and say it is easy for him to get what he wants, it just takes a call to the head of the so called “boys club”. The male tour leaders can sleep with who they like and it’s fine, female tour leaders are called up on it and made to feel bad or ashamed! Male tour leaders can do the bare minimum on a tour, wear what they want and ask for more the suggested amount for tips and this is okay. Women on the other hand are scored down on anything they can pin us down on. From my understanding women in the office also feel this way, but have only heard comments made about this a few times. It’s a shame really, it’s something you can actually see when you walk into the office. Many of us wish we had someone to talk to and who will actually do something, be they are all controlled by the apparent “boys club leader”. Many of us try to speak to the owners of the company, but can tell they do not have much of a care of how we tour leaders feel. If the had cared, surely they would have put a stop to the male chauvinist actions displayed in the company.
