Pros

You work on a super exciting product that benefits the lives of so many, and makes a real difference in bringing education and reading to the world. The people you work with are all like-minded, idealistic people. Management constantly trying to empathize with employees, and avoid burn out—providing company holidays, outings, "recharge weeks", and lifestyle budgets.

Cons

Pod-to-pod communication can be messy. Engineering is pressured to "move fast and break stuff" but then blamed when "stuff" is "broken".

Run as fast as you can AWAY from Epic

Pros

Epic WAS an amazing place to work. It had the perfect mix of work/life balance, amazing product, the MOST amazing people to work with, and a mission that made you feel good about the work you did every day. After the BYJU's acquisition, things started going downhill quickly.

Cons

BYJU's does not care one single bit about the brands they acquire or the people that have helped build them. They fully believe that they know what is best, even though they have NEVER had a U.S. presence, and refuse to believe those of us that tried to guide them into how to continue to build the US brand while expanding internationally. Their financial issues should cause everyone to pause as they are widely reported and some very shady stuff is clearly going on. I'm truly saddened at the demise of Epic as it was such an incredible product. I hope that anyone that is left is quickly looking to make an exit because they will let you go without warning and without care.

Pros

Epic used to be an amazing place to work at before getting acquired by BYJUs. The culture was amazing and the people were great.

Cons

Post acquisition, Epic is falling apart. They recently went through a giant layoff where pretty much most of the US team is no longer there. The parent company BYJU's is a sinking ship.

Good coworkers, not so great managers

Pros

Some really great, friendly, passionate people here. Benefits are pretty good. Depending on what team your on you can get good raises each year.

Cons

Alot of the departments/teams don't communicate what they're doing even if it effects other teams' work. Lots of managers/execs don't share info with the people below, even when it is something that we need to know. Lot of resistance to new product suggestions or processes unless your from particular teams or at a particular level in the hierarchy. Lots of departments don't seem to have growth paths and there's no info about how raises are determined or when is the right time to ask for one.

Pros

Up until a few months ago, Epic lived up to its name. Great people, a product to be proud of, flexible work environment and supportive, transparent leadership. Dream company. But that has changed.

Cons

Epic was acquired by BYJU’s. Read their reviews and the reviews for Osmo that was also acquired. Budgets weren’t approved for months, hiring came to a standstill, departments that had been promised growth weren’t able to even replace those who left. And then last week, they laid off almost a third of the company (hard to tell how many because they haven’t said but you can tell who’s gone on slack). Morale is at an all time low for those left. And severance packages were two weeks for many. That’s not a severance, that’s a 2 weeks notice. BYJU’s is not a bootstrapped start up but a $20B company. Even in the current market, with less revenue than expected, they could afford to be humane. Sad to see such a great place be destroyed.

A Dream Became a Nightmare

Pros

So many kids have used and loved the app. An amazing company of caring, talented people working on an amazing mission… until 2022.

Cons

When people look back on this era in EdTech, Byju's and their acquisition of companies like Epic will be remembered by many of us as a source of great destruction. Over and over, the top leadership at Byju's made some promise, plan, claim, or prediction, and over and over, the reality would turn out worse. Epic was one of the best companies in Silicon Valley and Byju's ruined it. The top leadership at Byju's is astonishingly self-congratulatory despite every reason we saw why they should feel otherwise.

Pros

A place with smart people and great work life balance.

Cons

Some turnover, but understandable given the recent acquisition.
