      Emulex is a very poor investment of your time

      Pros

      Emulex pays well, if you negotiate a high salary to begin with. For the next few years, there are minimal raises expected. If you are a fresh-out then Emulex is a good place to learn multiple skills.

      Cons

      The upper managment has a long history of being very happy as the number 2 player in a duopoly. They strongly avoid risk, including any innovation. As their cash cow Fibre Channel dies, they are dwindling their liquid assests and their engineering resources over petty infighting. Their marketing and sales departments have no experience in growing new markets nor attacking adjacent markets. They only know how to sell derivative "me too" products to the same 4 enterprise OEMs who are no longer buying.

      Pros

      None- Except for the few survivors that received huge incentives to stay and talk the talk and walk the walk.

      Cons

      CEO just led a huge WW layoff as part of his deal to sell to AVGO. Word is that over 700 people are gone... out of a prior total of ~1,100. Some departments are down 80-90%. Costa Mesa, corporate headquarters facility up for sale. Closed Roseville and other sites. No possibility of future R&D. They have lost critical mass and too many key engineers.

      Too Many VPs and a serious lack of vision

      Pros

      There is quite a bit of flexibility in schedule as long as you get your work done. The pay scales are standard California pay.

      Cons

      This is a good ole boy network where no one gets promoted unless they know someone. Lots of VPs with no one reporting to them and very little to show for their title. The acquisitions are clearly driven by bean counters with no fundamental grasp of the business that the company was built on. Also this company has fallen prey to lawyer speak and blatant dishonesty out of some fear that law suits are lurking in every shadow... but so goes it for every publicly traded company. The share holders are the big losers. Idea of corporate governance is to put the foxes in charge of the chicken coup.
