Pros

jBilling's hiring process is quite unique. Before ever looking at a resume, they ask candidates to complete various steps that include a combination of questionnaires, tests, presentations and other components, depending on the position. As a result, by the time an offer of employment is made, the candidate is fully engaged and interested in the organization's business, and the organization knows there is a good fit. From the moment I set foot in the door of the Ottawa office I felt at home. The team members are not only highly skilled and energetic, they are also warm and welcoming - which can be a rare thing in today's business environment. A major plus is that jBilling hires only the most talented individuals, and this sometimes means looking further afield. As a result, when you work there you are often dealing with other employees all over the world. jBilling puts a lot of emphasis on onboarding and training, and its learning academy is second to none.

Cons

It's too soon in the process for me to identify any cons.

Pros

Great start-up feel in terms of autonomy to get your job done without micromanagement. Excellent tools in terms of choice of hardware and Google Apps for day-to-day work. jBilling product is interesting despite being complex - the training and documentation team help a lot in this regard! Good work-life balance. The international team works exceptionally well despite being remote and working across just about every timezone across the globe. Lead software developers are both technically competent and communicate well to project managers and clients.

Cons

Company strategy is tough to discern at points and could be better communicated to all staff more frequently than quarterly meetings. Compensation could be better (although I was relatively junior) and implementing a pension plan or RRSP-matching is a must.
