Pros
I absolutely love this company. It is the easiest, most relatable, most caring company I've ever worked for. When I first got offered this position, I was deciding between working here and working for another legacy journalism company, and when I asked one of the people who interviewed me about the company, she said she went through the same issue and didn't regret for one second choosing iOne Digital media. That is what pushed me to join their company and man, I'm going to be super upset when I eventually leave for graduate school.
I absolutely love the fact that it is a Black-owned company, and the majority of my coworkers are Black. I feel a sense of community and care that was lacking tremendously at the other jobs I've worked at. They do not fuss over "workplace etiquette" and they just act like their authentic, humorous selves (professionally ofc, but we aren't hung up with the typical white supremacist aligned version of "professionalism").
My bosses are Black + Latindad women who are total sweethearts whose drive, passion, and determination are so inspiring to me. 2/3 of my bosses are mothers who are juggling being a big-time boss running large portions of the company, and my other boss juggles being a hustler working numerous side gigs while doing an excellent job running her team and supporting everyone who asks.
That's another amazing thing about this company, they are not afraid to answer whatever question you may have, and won't make you feel stupid about it either. They are so great with communication, and will literally accommodate almost anything you might need help with. My bosses even ENCOURAGE to take a sick day or PTO whenever you can, because they believe a healthy work/life balance is key to having efficiently run departments.
Also, I received two AMAZING bonuses even in my short amount of time working there. But not only that, the work I've assisted with, the chances my bosses have given me to create my own content and actually do what I love (which is writing) is more than what any other company has ever given me. I do not wake up every day hating my life and dreading going to work, I actually look forward to the week ahead.
Cons
I can't keep my job in the future because I will be international, and in a different time zone. It breaks my heart because I love this company so much, and thoroughly have enjoyed my time there. I really do hope I can rejoin again in the future, especially if my bosses are still running things. They are the most amazing women I've ever worked with.
