Pros

- The work is rewarding, with very appreciative clients and lots of learning opportunities. A great introduction to creative industries like children's book publishing. - Company sometimes covers the cost of additional courses/training for job skills outside of their training. - No cap on bonus/commission, so compensation can be quite high if you exceed KPIs. - Opportunities to move up in the company quickly with promotions and raises offered frequently. - Staff is quite nice to work with, and most of the clients and publishing partners are too. Great opportunities to connect with talented creative professionals (both freelance illustrators and corporate art directors). - Company culture rewards collaboration and so supporting team members is often encouraged.

Cons

- Often understaffed, so many employees feel overworked. Stress levels can be high as a result. - You will be expected to wear many hats. You'll have to hit the ground running quite soon after starting. While there is extensive training, you do have to balance that with job duties from day 1. New employees often have a lot of demands from a lot of different teams due to understaffing. - Saying "no" is not encouraged, but realistically you have to prioritize in order to finish your job duties in reasonable time (so say no without saying no) - No retirement/401k matching for New York employees. - Base salary starts low. KPI targets can be hard to hit, and harder to exceed if you rely on the bonus. - High premium for health insurance.

Pros

My amazing Astound agents have found work opportunities for me that I wouldn’t have known how to find on my own. One of my favorite projects to work on was creating illustrations for Hedbanz; a game that my family and I had always loved playing together. In addition to introducing me to clients, I appreciate that my agents also give me tips and critique on how I can improve my portfolio work to gear towards industry trends. So far my work has mostly been in book illustration, but my agents have been working with me to create illustrations for licensing as well. I really appreciate their guidance in making my art more versatile.

Cons

My "main agent" has changed a few times which is a little jarring, but I have enjoyed working with all of them.
