Pros
You will have opportunities to solve interesting problems and dive deep in the tech.
Cons
Believe the reviews. I wish I did. In brief: Onboarding - There was none. No shadowing, No diagrams, documentation was poor. Unlimited PTO – Scam. It'll be used against you in your yearly reviews (if you survive the countless rounds of layoffs). It mainly exists so the company doesn’t have to carry accrued leave on the books or pay it out when you leave. Looks great on the balance sheet, not so much for employees. Fully Remote – Best part of the role. Genuinely flexible and they do let you work from anywhere, but they also expect to be available always. It's not enough to offset everything else in my opinion Company Strategy and Vision – Unclear. Priorities change constantly often without warning or explanation. Teams are expected to pivot overnight with no regard for ongoing work, capacity, or actual business impact. Feels like leadership is flying blind most of the time. Bonus – Good luck. Your end-of-year review will be run through a “calibration” process that somehow always results in a lower score. And even if you do well, chances are the company missed its targets so no bonus for you. Management – Honestly baffling. I’ve never, in 15+ years, seen C-level tech execs regularly writing code and troubleshooting. Sounds great in theory, but in practice it creates confusion, undermines the engineers, and leads to micromanagement rather than trust. Engineers should be empowered to own the tech not have to wait for a CTO to push a fix. Leadership – Distant and disconnected. Their decisions have wrecked morale, gutted the culture, and led to a brain drain of talented people. There's little sense of accountability, and even less transparency.
Pros
Zepz is a mission-driven company with an engaging, dynamic workplace. There is a strong focus on speed and innovation, using modern technology to stay agile and quickly deliver competitive products. The fast pace suits people who thrive in a constantly changing environment. The company expects high performance but trusts employees with ownership to drive meaningful results. Executive leadership has successfully guided the company through some challenging times, making necessary decisions to focus on providing the best products for customers.
Cons
While a remote-first culture offers flexibility and autonomy, the distributed nature of the teams can sometimes lead to challenges in real-time collaboration, requiring a strong emphasis on proactive, asynchronous communication and organization.
Pros
Zepz is an environment where you are given the stage to drive meaningful, global impact if you have the grit to own it. My own journey here has been one of constant evolution spanning multiple roles within the People Team. During my tenure, the culture has matured significantly, moving from a "merger" phase into a unified, high-performing fintech with clear "Next-Gen Commitments": Outcomes, Velocity, and Integrity. Zepz is unapologetically high-performing, and for those who are curious, resilient, and cognitively agile, the professional fulfillment is immense. Pros: - Mission with Heart: Everything we build is centered on empowering cross-border communities and celebrating the impact migrants have on global prosperity. - Growth & Discovery: It’s an "adventure" environment where you can sharpen your skills on big, "sticky" problems that actually transform the working environment. - Performance Pays: There is a real commitment to ensuring that getting performance right pays dividends for our people, with a rewards strategy that differentiates impact. - Remote-First Flexibility: We focus on objectives and outcomes rather than desk time. But, expect to be held accountable for your outcomes, or lack thereof.
Cons
Cons / Reality Check: Not for Everyone: If you prefer a slow pace or highly prescriptive roles, you will struggle. Self-motivation and a "bias to action" are non-negotiable. Velocity is High: The pace is relentless. The ability to self manage and maintain a high level of personal accountability is an absolute requirement. Constant Evolution: You have to be comfortable with change and ambiguity. Expect to routinely operate with less than ideal information and/or time.
