Pros

You could make a difference if you can navigate the internal bureaucracy.

Cons

Upper management at YBLC has lofty goals for its clients and staff, but remains ineffectual with both groups. Clients are not provided with the consistency that the unique population requires, and not all programs are adequately explained during intake. Clients become frustrated and often drop out of these programs because of this misunderstanding. Management then encourages shady documentation to maintain positive outcome numbers.

Pros

A good and worthwhile mission centered on improving the lives of under served young adults in some of the most economically depress areas of Lake County, IL.

Cons

Lack of communication and transparency from the executive leadership team. No commitment to staff development or retention. There is a culture of "favoritism" that is apparent to all employees which creates a toxic working environment where gossip is rampant and employees are left to fend for themselves with no support from management. Employees have their personal hours invaded with emails at all hours of the night and are made to feel inadequate for not responding right away. There is no structure in place for employees to make independent decisions, each small detail for any project must be approved by the executive director which cause major delays and have damaged relationships and opportunities for the agency to grow. Lastly, there is constant staff turnover due to unrealistic expectations, below average industry wages, and overall poor agency management--during my time we had an 75% staff turnover.
