Pros

Visa Support Mildly Attractive Salary Kids are mostly good, depends on location

Cons

All of the horror stories are true. This company markets itself as a wholesome school which supports children in becoming the best they can be. This is what initially attracted me to the company, alongside a decent enough salary. They lie in the job listings and interviews stating you will never be alone with the kids. You WILL be alone with anywhere from 30-60 of them for what can be a majority of your day. It is flat out impossible to get your time off approved. You will see children getting screamed at by the Japanese teachers for minor mistakes such as not lining up properly or being 5 minutes late. Children are dragged away by the arm and locked in supply closets. They are forced to eat all of their lunch, even through tears and wails. The Japanese superiors have a rude attitude towards English staff, often times reminding you that you are expendable. Very little measures taken against COVID, you will be asked to use a half mask, the kind used to protect your spit from getting anywhere, which does absolutely nothing to protect you. You will have to buy class supplies with your own money and never get reimbursed. Good luck if you need to use the restroom, or even enjoy a bottle of water. Classrooms are monitored with security cameras adding to the prisonlike environment. As far as actually teaching goes, you will sometimes have no idea what the lessons are until you arrive. You will have to use your lunch break to prepare your lessons. More often than not, these lessons are simple vocabulary repetitions which does absolutely nothing to actually teach the children anything meaningful. If you sincerely care about children or getting any kind of teaching experience, avoid this place at all costs. I quit after the 3 month preliminary period after a child with mental disabilities was added to the class. They are always hiring anyone they can get for a reason. Nobody can bear the absurd conditions.

Pros

They provide great support for new staff coming from overseas. They assist with setting up your new life in Japan by finding a place to live, assisting with registering at the city hall, setting up your local phone contract, and any initial shopping for your new apartment. They will continue to support your if you need assistance with language boundaries.

Cons

Changing to full-time is tough. As a contract worker there are no bonuses, so not much incentive to improve quality of work. There is only a resign bonus.
