Pros
(1) Member care: This organization has a history of unparalleled member care. This was a huge incentive for joining the organization. (2) Learning organization: WorldVenture is concerned to understand the state of the American church as well as the global expansion of the Gospel. Changes in strategy are difficult in an older organization. But, I appreciate the organization's willingness to try. (3) Committed leadership: I have no doubt that our senior leadership is desperately and sleeplessly committed to the cause of global missions. It is an honor to work with them.
Cons
(1) Whereas change can lead an organization toward greater effectiveness, it can also lead to chaos. It is increasingly difficult to navigate policy and procedural changes within the organization. (2) The mission of the organization has historically been guided by the creativity of teams around the globe as they respond to their contextual needs in collaboration with national colleagues. Recent changes seem to pivot toward vision from senior leadership. This would be OK if the vision were clear and globally endorsed. In the meantime, global staff can easily feel like they are becoming less central and more like cogs in a big machine.
