Pros

Good salary, holidays off, fun events for staff

Cons

Admin doesn’t care about staff safety, too many librarians who want to read all day and spend time in their little cliques whispering about other staff members yet they’re the ones constantly getting spoken to about their terrible behavior and shouldn’t be working here. Admin is not transparent. They change things constantly, push you beyond your limits, and glorify job stress equating it with a job well done- wrong, they are making staff have mental health issues. The directors and deputy directors are completely aware of how awful things are here but they collect their six figure salaries, work from home and don’t have to work weekends. They do nothing to support staff. Admin does whatever they want and don’t do any work- they’re in “meetings” all day. Middle management is basically worthless bc they are a group of severely burnt out people because Admin refuses to support them and makes them play back up security with the custodians!

Pros

Colleagues and helping others in the community

Cons

-Favoritism and inappropriate sharing about good upper managers and staff members they don't like (have since left even though they were wonderful) with staff they like. -Upper management and head are unprofessional and only promote if they like you (even if you don't have qualifications or experience (they adjust the job and job description based on who they want to hire or promote). -Staff have complained (about how poorly staff have been treated and how the environment is toxic) to Library Board and City HR and Head Librarian is still employed here. -staff are punished if they speak out about poor treatment (Head Librarian cancelled our annual cookout (we've had for many many years) after we spoke up about how badly staff are treated. -We've had 22 people leave in 2 years. -Read the most recent Glassdoor reviews and you'll see a pattern of Head Librarian and upper management's toxicity.
