Cons
To begin with, it really matters which department you work with and whether it is under a Union or a Non-Union. Inspite of different opportunities being posted on the Marriott careers website for the employee portal, a majority of them are never actually open to many departments. For example if you are in a unionized department, you can go to other non-unionized departments only or selectively to certain non-union roles. On the other hand if you are in a non-union department then you cannot make a move to a union department. This is something that none of the managers or HRs would have a clear answer/justification as to why. This disrupts the application process in numerous ways because many employees are denied even an interview. Also, going to another department calls for "someone actually talking on behalf of you" more than just applying to a different department and waiting endlessly for an interview. Managers are not supportive in this regard. Yes, for sure they are open to have the most clear and open conversation with you but when it comes to actually talking of making a move to a different department or tracking the status of your application no one has an answer. "I am sorry, I can't answer that". Be careful on where you apply and ask questions regarding the stability of hours, shifts and more especially during slow times such as Winter.
