Good Pay. OK Benes. No Family Life. - Wal-Mart Assistant Manager Walmart Employee Review

Pros

Good Pay. Opportunities for advancement if you work hard. Discount on already inexpensive products. Every day at Wal-Mart is different.

Cons

No work/life balance. I worked 60-80 hours each week. Sometimes went in @ 7a and didn't leave until after midnight. Manager would give 2-3 hour projects on his way out the door at 5pm (when I was scheduled to leave a 5pm as well). I've NEVER (and I really mean never) met a Wal-Mart Store Manager that was HAPPILY married with YOUNG kids. NEVER. Working at Wal-Mart isn't conducive to a happy family life. Also, if you're not working in retail now, DON'T GO INTO RETAIL. Once you have retail on your resume, it's hard to get out and the only jobs you ever get offered are other retail jobs.

Pros

Advancement opportunities, great at developing skills, great place to learn a skill and grow your resume, or grow with the company.

Cons

Understaffing issues negatively affects all parts of their business. However, Walmart has increased their minimum hourly rate with hopes to attract more committed employees, and retain better employees.
