Pros

One of the few reasons I’d recommend working here is the salary and paid time off you get.

Cons

Working in such a high market in the news industry is bound to have its challenges, but Fox was a really hard place to work at. Not only do managers gossip and talk down on their workers openly when they’re not around, they also joke about the seriousness of a gruesome news story that always crosses the line, they swear they’re “there if you need them,” but once you ask them for help or clarification, they go out of their way to give you attitude and make you feel stupid. The men in that newsroom also make really inappropriate, weird comments and advancements. If you’re a woman, I would not recommend adding them on any kind of social media or giving them your personal number. I feel like the people in high management know what’s going on, and it just isn’t a priority to them. Same thing with being understaffed, and having to pick up another person’s workload, yet no appreciation is shown. Your schedule is also changed up quite a lot, some people end up working 8-9 days straight and even though it’s brought to the attention of a manager, they express how sorry they are but don’t actually change the schedule. The work/life balance isn’t good either. You can expect calls and emails outside of work hours, and if you don’t respond, you get passive aggressive comments about not staying in the loop. Overall, I don’t think this is a good place to work unless changes are made in management, and the work culture is fixed.

Pros

It's really up to you on what you want to do at this internship. You can sit around and do nothing if you want (don't do that if you want to go places in news), or shadow a reporter or make your own packages. It's just about asking to do those opportunities. It's also a great place for making connections in the news industry.

Cons

You are only compensated with a small stipend for each day that you work, not by an hourly pay, which is still nice, but can be tough if you're commuting from a school that's way outside of Philly. And no one is going to go out of their way to help you or give you experience. I wouldn't really say this is a "con" because if you ask to do certain things, someone will usually help you. But opportunities will not be handed to you on a golden platter - so take initiative with this internship!
