Pros
The parents and children have been absolutely wonderful during my time spent at the Village Learning Place. Working as an Academic Teacher, the children have taught me so much. I appreciate every single one of them and wish them a beautiful future.
Cons
Never mind the inappropriate office relationship, or the occasional tantrums held by certain higher management, or the fact that personal information concerning parents and their children are casually gossiped about within the office space. Deep down in my heart, I feel it is truly a shame that an organization meant to nurture and promote the growth of Baltimore's youth is run by a woman who has no clue how to interact with the program's children. I have worked at the Village Learning Place throughout the school year and summer programs and the only time this woman has come to "interact" with the children in their classroom environment is when there were scheduled site visits that had the potential to result in large grants. This supposed executive director does not support the academic teachers. There is an obviously lack of teaching material, opportunity for growth, and respect when she decides to speak at you. Teachers and assistants (including myself) were never comfortable to come to her with questions and concerns as her attitude was apparent that she didn't want to be bothered. Very disrespectful. Believe me, this is not a positive environment to work in. The children and parents are wonderful, however, you will not be happy actually working here. I came into this organization very hopeful and excited. I left never feeling so relieved.
