1) Lay offs- Videology recently laid off 25-30% of its employees and this was the second time (first was two years back). This time a lot of old employees and star performers were laid off who were in the middle level management. The reason given was cost cutting since these employees were enjoying high salaries and their job could be easily replaced by their direct reports who are employed at lesser salaries. Hope this does not become a pattern where employees are laid off every two years. It is very unfortunate when people have to lose their jobs at no fault of theirs.
2) Employees on visa- The company does not take any responsibility for H1B visa or Green Card. As a part of the new HR policy, the employee has to bear the premium processing fees if he/she wants to upgrade their application to fast track. Employees need to constantly follow up with HR for visa related matters.
3) Growth opportunities- Promotions and salary hikes are limited. The reason behind this is cost cutting, again. Especially for employees on visa, growth is an uphill battle.
4) Structure- Few big departments have now got split in to multiple departments and have been assigned new heads, and roles. Not sure if this sort of an arrangement was made to accommodate company objectives or certain high profile employees. One of the sister concerns have shut down and the people working there have been placed at good positions in Videology.
