Pros
- Very healthy work-life balance. No pressure to come in after-hours or on weekends.
- Activities foster friendship and engagement. Several times a week there are opportunities to join in activities like sports and cooking classes. The CEO and CTO are as likely to join in as kitchen staff and other employees. It really feels like a family.
- The company clearly attracts very smart people. A typical lunch conversation involves philosophical discussions about the nature of human intelligence, the consequences of automation, and genuine interest in each other's projects.
- No politics or ego-driven conflicts that I could see. Just a flat hierarchy with self-motivated, mission-driven people.
- Management seems to genuinely care about career advancement for employees, even when it means supporting talented people in leaving the company to pursue a PhD at MIT, take a job at Google X, or start their own company. I wouldn't be surprised if Vicarious one day has a legacy like Xerox PARC, PayPal, or Bell Labs owing to the innovators who got their start there.
