Pros

I'd say "work from home" but that's every company nowadays. So not much to mention here. Some employees are wonderful *at the team level*.

Cons

Zero respect for employees. Zero talent in upper management. Zero confidence in C-suite. Failure to deliver. Low pay. No raises. Never a bonus once in over 9 years. Will fire you immediately without warning. Micromanagement on steroids. Paranoid leadership. Negative and demeaning work environment. Terrible career move unless it is the last place you go before retirement. Leadership consists of closed circle of friends. No upward mobility remotely possible. They get what they want out of you and kick you to the curb. Losing contracts and deals as a result of toxic turnover of employees and employee exodus.

Pros

As a fully remote software engineer, I am part of a swarm of new hires - most of the team has been there for less than a year. The team is smart and talented and seems to have been filtered to keep or jerks and aholes. The work involves learning a lot of interesting new skills and the structure is loose enough that you can choose your own path. So far, I am happy to have started my new job here. (I have already recommended working here to a friend.)

Cons

I see two challenges: First, as a fully remote team, we have to work harder to learn to trust and rely on each other. Second, as a relatively small company in a field dominated by industry giants, there is a speculative nature to the enterprise - it is hard to fully predict (for better and worse) what will happen in the next year, in the next few years.

Pros

Working Remote was a plus

Cons

In the year I was there, I had 4 different managers. Vertex does not value employees other than white men that came from other big corporations that they failed at. They put “woman-owned” to look pretty and win contracts but the leadership decisions are all old white men that continue the instability that is Vertex. If you need a transitional job, work here, but don’t expect to stay long.
