Pros
There are a lot of wonderful people working at the West LA location. They have a newer hospital administrator who cares, but they ask too much of her. She can't fix everything that has been neglected at this hospital for years.
Cons
The hospital itself is a mess. There is no accountability among techs, they just throw people on the floor with no training, and there is not really any oversight. They use a system called smartflow but don't have the internet capability to handle it and it has caused patients to be accidentally overdosed on medication because it doesn't update well. It's also stopped working when dealing with critical cases, jeopardising the patient. Management has been told numerous times about the danger but does not do anything except say we have to use it. No contingency plan. There are a lot of interns, again, not a lot of oversight so not only are you taking care of your patients, but trying to help interns do their jobs. Owners pay the same fee for intern vs getting an experienced ER doc. If a pet comes in overnight after 2:30am, it's an intern basically on their own handling critical cases. There is no communication between departments and owners get frustrated a lot. Also, the West LA location is very expensive compared to other VCA locations. Most employees I've talked to would not trust have their own pets hospitalised here. They can't hold on to staff, but never offer anything till an employee threatens to quit.
