Pros
Employee pet discounts are the most generous I've seen and I've been able to give the top notch care I recommend to clients to my own pets. Access to multitudes of free online and in person CE. Good vision and dental insurance, 401k, life insurance. Pay is competitive for the area I work in. While every workplace has their issues, I've found the ones at VCA to be mostly manageable (though this will vary from hospital to hospital, I'm sure). Technicians and veterinarians all answer to the same manager, so the all-too-common mistreatment of technicians by veterinarians is minimal here and I feel respected. Mostly positive workplace with the exception of a few negative employees. Great team environment (for the most part).
Cons
Health insurance is so bad that I declined it and pay out of pocket for private insurance. Emergency can be hectic (expectedly), but more so when the sole ER doctor has to go to surgery and more emergencies are pouring in. They tend to hire a lot of new vet grads and it can be frustrating working with inexperienced veterinarians. The few negative employees here can really bring the team down and create divisiveness.
