Pros
The company is stable and even when other jobs are laying off they are continuing to hire. they have recorded paying dividends to stockholder for a consecutive 109 years. the pay is relatively good. for people that love to travel then this is the place for them. they pay for school at 85% reimbursement. the career oportunities exist but for only those people involved in clicks. there are many locations to work in and depending on if you are a person that likes to move a lot that can be a great thing. the current leadership is the best we have had in years.
Cons
Family time and time spent away from work. the hours are horrible and many guys and ladies wind up going through several divorces. there are quite a few mid level managers without any formal education and this causes resentment towards the new hires that come out of college. the college grads tend to find things very diffucult because all of the formal education has nothing to do with actual railroading and everything to do with dealing with people and finances. the managers tend to speak to each other in very harsh ways and this becomes quite unprofessional at times and makes very talented individuals consider other job opportunities.
