Pros
UTHealth is a world class institution. There is fantastic research and teaching happening here daily. In the academic departments, the employees, researchers, professors and students, are making the world a better place to live in. UTHealth saves lives. The employee benefits are good. There is meant to be an emphasis on worklife balance, which exists in policy not always practice. If you remain a UTHealth employee your college debt can be forgiven. If you are not ambitious and you prefer to work at a slow pace this is a great job. The vacation, sick time, and holidays are awesome.
Cons
UTHealth needs some education on the Me Too movement. There are many departments and positions which do little to no work. Then there are departments and employees who work incredibly long hours and do great work. There is little to no balance between resources, the schools, or administration. Tuition reimbursement is a lie unless you are an academic, or an executive. Favoritism is rampant and there are many toxic work environments. Due to the accepted levels of dysfunction, working at UTHealth can negatively impact the health and welfare of employees. Lay offs occur at random, after long rumors. The workplace disaster existing in the administrative building is ignored and permitted to remain a toxic place for employees. For UTHealth to be ranked a top workplace, there is an ignorance and falsehood displayed at such a level that it is scary. Data can say whatever you want it to, if you lie, don’t address rampant bullying, and manipulate employee survey results.
