Pros

UTG is a great place to gain some technical experience as an engineer. UTG will reimburse passed certifications, but they will not reimburse training or failed certifications. Great relationship with co-workers. Generously stocked breakroom. Treadmill desk. Limited work from home when there is a reason/need. Nice/newer office building. 1 week paternity/maternity leave in addition to PTO.

Cons

On call engineers are on a rotation that comes up every 2-3 months. On call engineers get a break from 8am-noon, but otherwise are expected to be available to work. Somewhat of an inherent con to working in IT. Engineers are asked to work up until midnight before a PTO day. Senior engineers are required to work after hours for escalated issues when not on call because there is no one else who can fix the issue. There are fewer senior resources than their used to be and a lot of turn over/reduction in senior positions and replacing them with more junior (lower salary) roles. Their is no reimbursement from PTO and you are not allowed to use PTO after turning in notice. Shift of focus from EBIDTA to net new revenue. Even people let go due to a re-org and not due to job performance are given zero notice. Leadership will get upset at anything less than 2 weeks notice though. Unbalanced view of "at-will" employment. Teams within the company mostly function as isolated units. Most people get around a 50% salary increase when leaving UTG. Good short term experience, but it is hard to get a raise/promotion at UTG. Non HQ offices don't get the same attention as the HQ Atlanta office.

UTG is looking at all of it's policies and having on going discussions in relation to PTO and a host of other things related employees but the team also liked to be balanced based on the needs to the business.
