Pros
The work is fun and fulfilling, and I feel the skills you develop are applicable to any industry. If you're a compassionate person who's willing to do the work and you also don't have access to affordable housing/food, it's worth it.
Cons
Overall, UTD undercompensates and overworks PAs compared to other universities. I also think it's worth considering that employment being tied to your housing and food (when you might not be able to acquire them were you to be fired) creates opportunities for exploitation that do not exist in other lines of work. There was also a period of about 18 months during my employment, during which PAs were under constant threat of being fired, and residents were treated more like data than people. However, that aspect had begun to improve during my couple of months with the University.
