Pros

Some professional freedom (within certain roles), a moderately decent benefits program offering. There are some good and very knowledgeable people within this organization who can be excellent resources for expanding one's knowledge base of the insurance business.

Cons

In-fighting, bullying, and lots of office politics create the unfortunate need to constantly "cover your backside." Rather than work together as a team or take personal accountability for issues, co-workers will constantly look for any opportunity to pass blame off onto you in favor of attempted self-preservation. There is a tremendous lack of professional integrity within this organization in my opinion. Check the turnover rate at the office you plan to work; there are definitely reasons that there are some positions are difficult to fill or turn-over regularly. The hours are long, and the demands are extremely high as well. Don't plan on much in the way of a positive work-life balance. Not much is available as far as internal training or professional development. Salaries, bonuses and raises (in the rare instance that they occur) are considered minimal to average at best.

Pros

You get out of it what you put into it. Autonomy and responsibility if you are fluent in the principles of extreme ownership. Think of it like running your own business as an entrepreneur, with a deep well of resources at your fingertips to help you be successful. High upside if you are willing to put in the work! (and that doesn't mean 50 hour weeks or unmanageable workloads)

Cons

If you don't have an open mind, are closed off to learning new things, and don't have a "how can I help" mentality, this may not be the best fit for you. Pay (base salary) may be slightly lower than other consulting firms, but total rewards package in the aggregate is competitive, and high upside potential with career path opportunities.
