Pros

100% Employer paid benefits 401k match Able to stay working remote for now

Cons

Being a legacy Ultimate Software employee the merger with Kronos has been heart breaking in many ways. Of course there are changes and growing pains with the merging process but they are headed in the wrong direction. High ups are only from the Kronos side now with many legacy Ultimate employees retiring or just leaving. Legacy Ultimate employees at all levels are leaving. Before the merger we were told the lowest paid employee was just as valuable as the highest paid and should be treated that way and it showed. I felt like I had found a company where I wanted to really grow my career. I felt valued and appreciated. I was thankful every day to be with the company. Now there is a very apparent lack of culture. Morale is down. Policies have changed yet are not stated anywhere or clear. Micro managing has been implemented which makes an employee feel like a number not a person. Not able to get clear answers on current HR and other policies and getting the run around to try to get clarification. Different expectations set than before. When the new CEO took over he praised Ultimate and said he could learn from us since we were so high on the great places to work list. Yet the complete opposite has happened. It's not the worst place to work. To me now it is comparable to working at a lot of big box type of jobs. So if you're satisfied with that then great. But it's nothing like it was.

Pros

The company offers a convenient office location with plenty of nearby dining options and ample parking. The office environment is pleasant, with nice views that make in-office days more enjoyable. The hybrid work arrangement provides a good balance between collaboration and flexibility. Additionally, the organization has been supportive of using AI-powered development tools, which can help improve developer productivity and efficiency.

Cons

As a Senior Software Engineer, I found the company to have several challenges that made it difficult to be effective and grow professionally. The engineering culture can sometimes feel blame-oriented rather than focused on learning and continuous improvement. The software delivery process contains multiple layers of approvals and redundant steps, resulting in slow code promotion to production and reduced engineering velocity. Technical decisions made by senior leadership do not always align with modern engineering practices, which can make innovation and technology adoption more difficult. Recent organizational changes have also reduced the attractiveness of the benefits package. Additionally, bonus compensation is minimal and generally not a meaningful part of overall rewards. While there are talented colleagues and opportunities to work on large-scale systems, engineers who value fast execution, modern technology practices, and strong performance-based compensation may find the environment less appealing.
