Pros

Good work/life balance depending on the team you are in.

Cons

My my, where do I begin? I fear that the size allocation for this field in the glassdoor backend won't allow for all the cons that exist at UKG but I'll give it a shot. 1. Management is clueless as to the needs and concerns of their employees. They continually ask for input on areas where they could improve but then they do the complete opposite. There is no direction at the middle management layer and above and at this point it seems they are just throwing things to the wall and seeing what sticks. 2. Compensation is pretty dismal at UKG. It wasn't that great when it used to be Ultimate Software but it has gotten even worse if that is possible. There is no currently defined yearly salary raise. Salaries are on the low side compared to the industry average. Promotions are based on who you know or who you ask, which is the only way to secure a raise. They have just recently released a bonus and RSU plan but it is very low at best ~ 2-3% depending on company performance, which, let's face it is just a way to deny you a bonus. 3. Kronos runs the organization. If they say jump you say how high. You don't matter if you're part of the legacy Ultimate side. 4. You'll hear the following buzz words regularly, which they use to defend all their nonsensical decisions: "alignment", "strategic", "major", "heavy lifting", "peeling back the kimono". 5. We are experiencing unprecedented levels of attrition from the legacy Ultimate side. Hundreds of employees are leaving. That should tell you how wrong everything is. 6. The merger has destroyed all trust in the old corporate values. 7. It's no longer fun to work here. Go work anywhere else! You won't be happy here.

Pros

The company offers a convenient office location with plenty of nearby dining options and ample parking. The office environment is pleasant, with nice views that make in-office days more enjoyable. The hybrid work arrangement provides a good balance between collaboration and flexibility. Additionally, the organization has been supportive of using AI-powered development tools, which can help improve developer productivity and efficiency.

Cons

As a Senior Software Engineer, I found the company to have several challenges that made it difficult to be effective and grow professionally. The engineering culture can sometimes feel blame-oriented rather than focused on learning and continuous improvement. The software delivery process contains multiple layers of approvals and redundant steps, resulting in slow code promotion to production and reduced engineering velocity. Technical decisions made by senior leadership do not always align with modern engineering practices, which can make innovation and technology adoption more difficult. Recent organizational changes have also reduced the attractiveness of the benefits package. Additionally, bonus compensation is minimal and generally not a meaningful part of overall rewards. While there are talented colleagues and opportunities to work on large-scale systems, engineers who value fast execution, modern technology practices, and strong performance-based compensation may find the environment less appealing.
