Pros
I got this job when I was finishing my PhD in Europe. I was quite motivated when I come here. The advisor was quite famous and has a strong record on some topics in which I was interested. The salary was also ok comparing to different postdoc fellows in the computer science disciplines.
Cons
The advisor was a really character despite his strong scientific record. He was a micro management freak who has the impression that all others are behind his back. He tried to put me on some topics that I don't have the chance to get any publications out. I learned he was also in trouble with his fellow grad students. This is my personal experience. On the other hand, Davis is a little bit isolated from the bay area, it is not well connected with industry which makes it harder to make a transfer from Davis to the Bay Area.
