Pros
This is a graduate student union that provides good pay and benefits for working students. If you're leaving the academy consider a full time staff position as you transition to other work. Most importantly, higher education is collapsing around a singular pillar of STEM which is canalizing Universities as tech incubators
Cons
Long hours during orientation. Understand that graduate students think that high status or high paid jobs will protect them from deskilling or lay offs. Its not true. Workers also benefit from having a voice.
