Pros

Legacy of strong engineering talent (though this is being pushed out). Historically strong oversight from C-suite (prior to current R&D leadership shift).

Cons

The current R&D leadership has shifted the culture from meritocracy to pure cronyism, where political proximity to the Director and VP of Engineering is the only viable path to promotion. As a veteran with 21 years of experience, it is disheartening to watch engineers with only 3–5 years of experience fast-tracked into Lead or Principal roles while seasoned staff are told to "stay down" to make room for favorites. This bias extends to resource allocation; while the political circle receives company-funded certifications, grants, and free money for growth, the rest of the engineering talent is sidelined. The ETO, Power Distribution, Power Conversion and PMO managers operate without accountability due to personal ties with R&D leadership, and there is a disturbing trend of third-party consultants being converted to full-time and promoted without proven records. Furthermore, there is a blatant "double standard" regarding presence and work ethic leadership frequently disappears for "private appointments" on Fridays, while the people actually doing the work are denied the same flexibility or recognition. If you work hard here, you will remain stagnant; if you play the political game, you will grow. The C-suite must intervene before the remaining senior talent heads for the exit. The technical and financial competence of the management layer is also alarming; many Senior Managers don’t even know how to calculate a basic budget forecast and were promoted solely based on relationships. Ultimately, it is a "yes-man" culture: if you dare to question the Director or point out these flaws, you are effectively blacklisted from any future promotion.

Pros

- Fast paced organization that is quickly growing, leading to a lot of opportunity to make an impact - A lot of genuinely talented and good people in the organization - Most of the leadership group stays connected with the organization; not uncommon to hear the VP of your department admit they need help or ask you for your expertise

Cons

- Disorganization in a lot of areas; rapid growth + acquisitions has led to multiple overlapping processes - Lack of established guidelines/best practices in a lot of areas - Direct career pathing not possible in all departments

Pros

-Everyone I've met is welcoming and open to share their skills and experience with others. -The approach to AI here is refreshing: not forcing adoption at all costs like some companies do but instead really showing the value in it as a tool & the best ways to use it. -The managers I've experienced here trust their team to get the job done well, and I have reasonable autonomy.

Cons

-Due to the acquisitions and expansions, there's some policies/processes that are missing or not unified. This can make it difficult to get some things done, but it's also an opportunity to jump in and work on/create those processes and make things more efficient for the future. -There's turnover in some departments that can be challenging due to not knowing where responsibilities are going in a timely manner. -OKRs are clearly important to leadership, but coming from a different company with really effective OKRs, I'm not sure that Trystar sets effective company OKRs just yet. Room for growth there.
