Pros
Travelers is strong in many categories. I am coming from a smaller regional insurance carrier, so I have experience in that realm as well. Here are some of the key points that I think the company does very well. 1.) Freedom - The most important part is that Travelers allows you to kind of "blaze your own path" in terms of how you want to do your work. They allow and encourage frequent travel, visits, and relationship building activities, along with full support on the desk underwriting side. You really have free reign to do as you please. 2.) Work/Life Balance - As far as I know, you get 20+ days of PTO straight out of the gate, which I think is VERY competitive. Along with that, if you have appointments/external meetings throughout the workday, no one is breathing down your neck or watching your every move. Basically the mantra of "If your desk is in order, go do what you gotta do." 3.) Teamwork/Collaboration - There will be 0 seconds of time in this job where you will feel like you're on an island. There are managers, teammates, coaches/mentors, and officers that are available at all times to help you. Travelers stresses teamwork and collaboration very strongly, so you will always have someone to bounce ideas off of. But, with that being said, you're still given all the freedom to work independently as well. 4.) Pay - The pay at this company is exceptional. I would be very surprised if there were many other carriers paying as well as Travelers. If you're looking for a nice increase, give them a look.
Cons
1.) Training as a new or experienced hire is a VERY long process. You get paid fully the whole time, so who cares - but it does get very boring and is a very lengthy process 2.) St. Paul, MN office culture is a little underwhelming. Like most things, it's as good as you make it, but people definitely put their heads down and grind quite a bit, so it can get a little quiet.
