Pros
Remote work. Great compensation and bonus structure (until everything came to a grinding halt in early 2023). Smart and accomplished people who deserve better.
Cons
It has been said before, and I'll repeat it: The CEO operates without a board, making decisions that are unfounded and unchecked. This has led to frequent, unannounced layoffs. Often, you only realize someone is gone when you try to message them and find their Slack profile deactivated. Additionally, salaries have been frozen for over a year, bonuses are under scrutiny, and U.S. benefits have been reduced—401k matching has been eliminated, and healthcare premiums are no longer fully covered by the company. Reducing benefits after multiple rounds of layoffs demonstrates a complete lack of respect for the employees who continued to support Toptal. The implicit truth at Toptal is that job security exists only if you aren't costly. Company culture is dead, and morale is at an all-time low. At Toptal, you either work until you get laid off or become so burned out and exhausted from exploitation that you lose the motivation to continue working.
