Pros

This company is extremely willing to help you and they truly do care about their people. Some highlights from my time with TSG include: great opportunity to LEARN. Every job supplies you with something that you can take away and utilize in your future jobs. I enjoyed being able to learn about the technology field, about the lay-out of many enterprise companies and being able to "jump in" head first and learn as I went. Another highlight is at Christmas time, Sheldon sent every employee in the entire company a $100 bill to "Pay It Forward". This gesture was something that shocked me. Not many people can say that their company would hand them money to positively impact another person's life with. Also, Sheldon made visits to each and every office and took time to sit down and listen to our pros and cons with the company. Even if many of the issues were not addressed, I did appreciate the time Sheldon put aside to personally meet and get to know all of us. It was a gesture that made me feel important and at the end of the day, that is how a company keeps good employees.

Cons

I think the cons on here vary depending on which office you are in. I had a lot of friends (from training) in other offices that did not seem to have the same problems that our office had. First off, the turn over rate in our office was pretty bad. Upon me being hired, 2 people had already quit from the time I did my shadow day to two weeks later when I came back after training. People in the office were constantly job searching and I began to as well after a few events that happened. The biggest con to me was the lack of trust. The micromanagement was absolutely insane. I had more freedom and responsibility/trust at my first part-time job when I was 15 years old. Constantly getting ridiculed for lack of minutes on the phone although my spread was comparable to a DM who had been employed with the company for over 2 years. The work/ life balance is despicable. They try to put it off as "being high performance" but, what they ask of you is ridiculous. If you are not willing to work 50 hours a week-- do not work here. Lastly, the upper management was the main issue. Extremely immature and would basically call employees into office one by one to gossip about other employees. There were multiple HR complaints made from at least 3 employees in my office and nothing was ever done about said issues.

Thank you for your feedback, and we're happy that you are enjoying your new role. It sounds like you were able to take some learnings from TSG into your new company which is a good thing. You are right about Sheldon's commitment to his company and his employees and I know he values very much the opportunity to visit the branches and listen to candid feedback. As you mention, not all of the issues raised can necessarily be addressed, but I know there has been positive changes made based on direct employee feedback. As to your constructive feedback, as many of our employees are starting their corporate careers with TSG, it's important to have a structure for everyone as they move from new hire to experienced DM/AM. This does mean that the sellers and recruiters are measured on activity - not just calls but meetings, events, shadowing and role playing. As you experienced, some of this has to happen outside of regular work hours and is quite customary for our industry (and other sales-oriented industries). When you combine high performing personalities who are generally getting their first taste of corporate life, with a fast-paced environment at a growing company, there will be some challenges. I believe our Executive team is doing all they can to address issues when they arise, and ensure a positive experience for everyone. We are always striving to be better, do better!

Pros

Uncapped commission, remote work, entrepreneurial mindset.

Cons

I dedicated nearly a decade to The Select Group and am appreciative of the opportunities and relationships that came from that time. The company’s early culture emphasized mentorship, teamwork, and positively impacting lives, which had a meaningful impact on my development. As the organization evolved, priorities shifted toward activity tracking and KPI performance, creating a different experience than in the earlier years. I’m grateful for the foundation it provided and the people I worked with along the way.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for the many years you dedicated to TSG - we’re grateful for the impact you made and the relationships you helped build during your time here. Thank you for sharing that our focus on mentorship, teamwork, and positively impacting lives played a meaningful role in your development. At the same time, your feedback on the shift toward activity tracking and KPIs is heard and appreciated. As we’ve grown, we’ve worked to introduce more structure and clarity around performance, but we know it’s critical to balance that with the TSG Ethos that defines us. We wish you continued success and appreciate the lasting mark you’ve left on TSG.
