Supportive Colleagues, but Poor Execution from Leadership - Client Services The Marketing Practice Employee Review

Pros

There are some genuinely talented, supportive, and wonderful people to work alongside, which makes the every day experience more enjoyable despite the challenges.

Cons

Leadership appears disconnected from day to day operations and often does not actively engage with the strategies, systems, or processes they introduce. Responsibility is frequently delegated to individuals who lack the authority to implement meaningful change, which can lead to frustration and stalled progress. There is a heavy reliance on employee goodwill, with increasing workloads placed on a shrinking team. This has, in some cases, led to stress and burnout. For those considering joining, it’s worth carefully assessing whether the working environment and leadership style align with your expectations.

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you found your colleagues to be supportive and talented, but we’re sorry to read your concerns regarding leadership alignment, decision-making, and workload. The points you raise around how strategies are implemented in practice, clarity of ownership and authority, and the impact of resourcing on team capacity are important. We recognise that when these areas are not working effectively, it can lead to frustration and create unnecessary pressure on teams, which is not the experience we want for our people. We are continually working to improve how we translate strategy into day-to-day execution and how we ensure teams are appropriately supported and resourced. Feedback like this helps highlight where there is more work to do. We also take wellbeing and workload very seriously, particularly where there are signs of sustained pressure or burnout. These are areas we actively monitor and continue to address through ongoing improvements in how we plan, prioritise, and staff teams. If you’re open to it, we’d encourage you to contact our People Team at peopleteam@tmpb2b.com so we can better understand your experience in more detail and take any appropriate action. We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review and wish you all the best moving forward.

Pros

The Marketing Practice had a great work environment with a strong work life balance. Although mostly remote, the emphasis on communication made it easy to feel close with coworkers.

Cons

Cannot think about much that needs improvement.

Pros

- Some genuinely smart, well-intentioned people remain, especially within the creative team. - Exposure to large enterprise clients and strategic marketing work. - Remote work flexibility is solid, and some pockets of the business still try to do good work.

Cons

- Much of the agency’s strategic leadership has either left or been laid off. What remains is largely a tactical execution engine, and some in VP+ roles are clearly out of their depth. - It often feels like two separate agencies. After acquiring several US firms, the UK team was elevated as the center of gravity. The US team’s market knowledge is frequently ignored or marginalized, and input is deprioritized. - Leadership culture feels cliquey and defensive. There’s little cross-regional collaboration or trust, and internal decision-making often lacks transparency. - Communication from leadership is inconsistent and at times feels more like misdirection than meaningful direction. Top-down messaging is reactive and not well coordinated. - The organizational structure is bloated in some places and hollow in others—lots of churn, little continuity, and no clear plan to stabilize the business.

Thanks for the thoughtful review. I can see you're an existing employee, so please do reach out to the People team or a member of management you trust if you would like to discuss any of these points further. You're right that keeping people connecting globally can be a challenge, particularly where we've integrated companies previously centred in different regions. We're always keen to better understand regional perspectives to help inform our strategy, and have made recent changes to our US leadership and structure to help do that. Hopefully you will start to feel that's reflected soon. We appreciate your ongoing commitment to TMP.
