Pros

The company is pretty cool but it honestly depends on which location you are applying to work at!! I cant stress that enough, one location does not represent the company as a whole, unfortunately I was working at a location with an insufferable store manager. I was an assistant manager at Hollister and if you are too or A&F...STAY THERE!! I applied online, took a personality test and went in to interview for a position in the Management Development Program. I went in, interviewed and was called back that evening to interview with the Area Manager the next morning. I interviewed and they offered me the position about 2 hours later. I took it because I thought it was going to be a fun and great company to work for.

Cons

In about two months, I sold over a hundred thousand dollars personally! Over thirty thousand dollars more than any other associate there. Even the other MT in front of me had no chance to catch me in sales. Cons: You are NOT an MT or manager!! My entire time there I never even had a key to the store. I had sales associates telling me what to do, yet I was suppose to be a manager?? Haha give me a break. You are EXPECTED to work at least 50 hrs a week because on your days off, you are EXPECTED to come in and work on your zone or department. On some SUNDAYS, you are scheduled to work from 8am (4 hrs prior to mall opening) until 11pm and sometimes even Midnight...on SUNDAY?? The mall closes at 6pm dude This store manager gets upset over the pettiest things and he turns red in the face. If you take an hour long break (in which you are entitled to by LAW) he gets on your case about it. Who does that? You get NO recognition for your performance AND if you do too well, the other teammates get upset at you because you are supposedly taking all the guests that walk in and STEALING them. Needless to say, I left the company in three months because if I worked there just another minute, I was going to blow my brains out.

Pros

-Good work-life balance. -Team-building is encouraged. -The experience can vary by location. -Buckle has the potential to have some of the best retail teams, depending on the store. -There are opportunities for growth and career advancement for employees who have supportive leadership.

Cons

Management's willingness to lead, communicate effectively, and support employees is what creates opportunities for growth, but that was not my experience at this location. I felt the work environment was negatively affected by inconsistent communication, a leadership style that felt overly controlling, and discussions about employees that appeared to undermine teamwork and trust. I believe a more respectful, supportive, and collaborative approach to leadership would create a healthier workplace culture and better support both employees and the overall success of the store.
