Unmanageable Workload, Unlivable Wage - Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Texas Workforce Commission Employee Review

Pros

Time off Insurance State retirement

Cons

Management is out of touch of just how unmanageable the workloads are when they won't raise salaries to hire new employees. Each office has 3+ vacancies, leaving remaining staff to cover empty caseloads. Each counselor is tasked with special projects, vacancy coverage, weekly reporting, and mandatory "training" that is basic information we could read in an email that takes up 1-3 hours of precious work time. It's all about hitting numbers and earning next year's budget-- understandable in sales-- but not in a counseling position where you barely have 10 minutes to give each customer per month. Legislators won't give us more funds, so management pretends we can get it all done in a 40-hour work week with no OTP or bonuses. And if you don't comply, you're put on a PIP and sent packing, even if you yourself have a disability. It's sad. No heart. No compassion. No human service.
