Pros
Flexible work schedule and location, fast-paced, some staff are actually incredibly resourceful and good-natured people, can learn a lot (on your own, though)
Cons
Expect to be treated like dirt in this highly unprofessional environment. If you ever wanted to be run into the ground doing your work and the work of three other people while encountering the most god-awful, eyebrow-raising, inappropriate situations, then by all means join the team. If you ever want to be hired, don't expect anyone to give you passwords, teach you processes, or even explain anything of how the company works, who's who, or what is what. It's a strictly sink or swim environment. Disagreeing with management will get you a helping of aggression, torment, and loads of more work. If you report the issue to HR, there's little that can be done to help you. If you are outspoken, goal-driven, and don't really want to deal with politics, this isn't the place to work. From editorial to marketing to sales and everything in between, you will always be a pawn in their game. Keep all your emails, hard copy and electronic. Report anything you feel is wrong immediately and keep the paper trail, these people will never do anything to help you, but you can always fight back legally if you report it correctly and have your written evidence. These people aren't your friends, but they will pretend. You'll wonder at first, but don't trust them. You will be thrown under the bus. If you manage to find another job and leave, congratulations. But if you're like the 5, 10, or even 20 people they fire every January for their annual 'layoffs' (like clockwork), then remember to save that paper trail, because you'll need it.
