Pros

The building is easy to get to.

Cons

My experience at the council was deeply negative. The organisation relies heavily on slogans about ‘doing the right thing’, but in reality this often felt like branding rather than behaviour. The culture was dominated by gatekeeping, internal politics, and a reluctance to allow genuine progress. Decision‑making was slow, inconsistent, and frequently driven by personal agendas rather than evidence or resident need. Attempts to improve processes or deliver meaningful work were often blocked by individuals protecting their own territory, creating an environment where progress was something to be managed, not achieved. Management struggled with competence, clarity, and accountability. Instead of supporting staff, leadership often created confusion, fear of speaking up, and a culture where good work was either ignored or actively obstructed. This had a significant impact on morale and left many capable staff feeling undervalued and unable to do their jobs effectively. There are hardworking people within the organisation, but the systemic gatekeeping and leadership approach make it extremely difficult for them to succeed. I would strongly advise applicants to ask very direct questions about team culture, decision‑making processes, and leadership capability before accepting a role.
