Pros
The only a pro is positive if you're a responsible and self-motivated professional. Tallgrass allows a great deal of autonomy. It's a place where you can garner just about as much technical knowledge as you like, because there is no one monitoring or managing the vendor sponsored education courses.
Cons
Bar none, this was the most toxic & dysfunctional workplace I've ever encountered. No logical or consistent processes, no capable leadership, bullies in workplace, rampant gossip, and no accountability whatsoever. The most tenured employee is a barely functioning alcoholic, and is enabled by an owner who has sent him home (yes... driving drunk) more than once; after finding him drunk dialing clients or sleeping at his desk. There were times I was truly mystified at Tallgrass standards. Whether it was being bullied by a "manager" or watching employees be absent 40%-50% of the time, with no consequences... just unbelievable and now with some perspective, some downright shocking behavior. The attrition rate is very high, and continues to grow. This company continues to exist, because most of the client base doesn't realize the incredibly high margin Tallgrass is charging for managed and professional services. On top of that, the single DBA on staff is constantly double and triple billing. There is NO reinvestment in the business. Whether it's hiring additional competent staff, providing updated office equipment, or even replacing carpeting that's held together by duct tape... the owner has absolutely no concept of reinvestment in staff or environment.
