We do hire good people; you’re absolutely right! It’s not easy to do - we reject some 98% of applicants, and hiring can take longer than we would like. But the proof is in the pudding, and that pudding is definitely part of our “secret sauce” (to mix gastronomic metaphors).
At the moment, all our clients want people offsite (we currently have exactly one person - who prefers to be onsite - onsite at a client). We anticipate that changing a little, so we are planning for that possibility, but we don’t see clients wanting people back full-time onsite anytime soon. That said, while we have always been a “telecommuting first” company (for 28 years!), our clients have needs (and they do pay the bills), so we need to do what we can to meet those needs.
If there’s any upside to the pandemic, it made people recognize how productive they can be when working from home. We have been trying to educate clients about the concept for decades, but there’s nothing like first-hand experience to prove a point. Hopefully, the lessons of the last few years will prove long-lasting.
