Pros

PEOPLE...the folks who work in the successful machine known as Sysco are by far the best in the business. The best at just being people friendly and customer driven. Training for any job is there...if you ask for it, or at least it was. The events, shows and such are by far supreme in the food industry. Vendors are amazing at what they do. Sales force is driven.

Cons

You have to ask for training. Seems the further into time the less they are interested in training. So keeping up on any kind of skill set is put to the back burner. Except in Sales. Some of the sales techniques need to be amped up to current times. Find a good mentor in Sales and you'll be fine. As changes come along this company seems to forget it's biggest tool in the industry, and what made it so big to begin with...the people who work, live and breathe Sysco. At one point it was everything anyone could ever want in a company. Seems if you're in the clique your job is safe, if you're not, yet you play by the rules lay off is guaranteed. Too many good folks let go while several of those who have stayed have taken the reputation of this amazing company to the dogs.

Pros

You can make money but it all depends on the orders you get, how fast you can go, how long you can maintain that pace without getting burned out. Definitely a young mans sport, as the do refer to you as "industrial athletes."

Cons

Like many industries the hours can be long. For the ones who don't make much on running above rate then you can make up for it in hours. If you soak the hours and run you can definitely make some big money. The turn over rate is extremely high there, even in management. I used to be proud of the union but the teamsters in Cleveland are completely worthless, I would bet they are getting paid under the table to not fight for contract negotiations. When I was there the contract expired and they barely fought for anything, on voting day they literally said they wont back us up if we don't pass this contract....so consider that when you want to work for this place. Also the equipment is so old and broken that people were taking the scanners home just so they could have a good one for the next night.
