Pros

Flexible-ish hours, casual dress, some amazing coworkers who are creative and very talented and keep things fun despite the lack of process and structure they deal with daily. There is a summer gathering and a Christmas party. Fresh fruit in the cafeteria every week. A 100 dollar race reimbursement and 200 (if you spend 400) gym reimbursement though these are very difficult to actually get the department responsible for them to accept and are sometimes denied when that department changes their minds on what this benefit covers. This company has a lot of small perks that are nice. They are mostly driven by the desire to win contests like 'Best Places to Work.' It would be nice if these perks weren't tied to that and were done because the company just wanted to do the right thing for its people.

Cons

This company sends mixed messages. Managing talent and keeping employees satisfied is a shortcoming. They talk about top grading, which they only do in interviews (think tell me about what your manager at the restaurant you worked at in college 15 yrs ago would say about you...and then EVERY boss EVER after that), but they then also keep people in their jobs that seriously need to be on performance improvement plans or let go. If you're going to talk about Top Grading, then do all of it and truly only keep your 'A' players and help the 'B' players improve. 10% of this company is doing 90% of the work. It's stressful for those putting in the hours to make up for others' current lack of drive. They talk about offering competitive salaries, but I haven't met a single person here below the VP or Director level that wasn't lowballed and disappointed in their salary from the start. They talk about treating everyone like family, but nothing outside that 'talk' shows they value me. It's considered a HUGE deal to get more than a 2% increase at your yearly review which means you're pretty much losing money by staying here longer. There are seldom merit based increases to show appreciation and reward current employees unless your manager raises a really big stink about it. It would be nice to be rewarded for hard work BEFORE it came to walking out the door for people. Management acts like they've done you such a big favor by increasing your below average salary by a smidge, and that's incredibly discouraging. No tuition reimbursement and the department that controls budget for other extra classes/training plays favorites with who can use it. Salary employees still have to submit time cards and are treated like juveniles when it comes to time. The department that should be advocating for employees flip flops on their policies, are not very transparent and never take the time to explain why a decision was made beyond 'that's the way it is.'
