Main issue - career progress was held back due to being male, staff members flat-out refused to be managed by another male assistant manager after the previous one left. In my interview I was "promised" progression due to having experience in retail management - was clear as day I was never getting the role despite being a consistent performer.
- Long shifts - extremely inconsistent too, and poor rota planning led to 10 days working in a row, on more than one occasion.
- Absolutely dead sometimes, the standing around waiting for customers was a killer.
- Went the entire winter with no heating which was absolutely abysmal.
- Store promotions handled woefully, with no 'forward-thinking', in the days leading up to promotions the store would look like a dumping ground of jewellery.
- Tiny stockroom and the toilet was also used as a place to hold stock. Sometimes you'd need stock and someone would be doing their business leading to awkward wait times if you were with a customer.
