Pros

I worked at the head office/factory in Long Eaton for some time where I met some nice people in various departments as described in another review. There was a big open plan office in a somewhat hollowed out warehouse/ factory. A little old but functional and what you would expect from a set up like this. A bit haphazard with a bare bones setup, which is fine but not as exciting and elegant as some of the stores and photos would lead you to believe. Equipment provided for the job was good.

Cons

Unfortunately the management were awful and the CEO is exactly as described in another review here. The combination of the two meant that even after several years, the turnover of staff was still alarmingly high. Staff morale was always mid to low, with someone always complaining about one person or another. A lot of buck passing and finger pointing. Not always actively toxic but the stress levels were high enough that it resulted in a lot of tension and pettiness most of the time. It also felt that being a good fit for the company and an ideal staff member seemed to change drastically depending on management's/line managers personal opinion of you, rather than merit or ability. The same can be said for promotions and pay rises. The same calibre of work that earned one for some people, was unrewarded, unnoticed and simply expected if you were outside of the right groups. The workload too, was not reflected in the pay, even if at first glance it seemed fair for the role. There were often unreasonably high targets to hit and other responsibilities outside of contracted ones that you were simply expected to deliver on. Plenty of U-turn decisions and last minute demands from the CEO and management that made hours of planned, scheduled work redundant but with no real movement on deadlines to compensate. Staff who had made themselves indispensable appeared to be treated with more respect (begrudgingly)because they were crucial to the company and its operation. It definitely felt that those who were replaceable were treated as such. Overall I wouldn't recommend working for Sunspel. An ungracious, disrespectful CEO, combined with a who-you-know, exploitative company culture, the cons far outweigh any pros.
