Wild Variations Between Franchise Owners - Manager Subway Employee Review

Pros

Being able to freely draft your own schedule is a wonderful boon but it's almost the only pro I can list. A single shift meal, free soda all day and a fun environment are hardly reasons to work in an industry. However, I can list them as perks for this job.

Cons

Long days. Several 14 hour days in a row working alone because the owner decided he didn't want to pay labor. Constant battles with what to order vs what we wasted. It may be the most difficult to anticipate flow through I have ever experienced. Food service is always unpredictable, but this was egregious. Owner refused to staff more than one person at a time. The pitfalls are entirely based on your franchise owner. Use caution in accepting management. All in all my suggestion is to manage a Burger King, instead.

Pros

Very flexible scheduling, especially if your manager is willing to work around all their employees. You usually get a 50% discount that you can use once a day too.

Cons

Direct district management at this location does not know how to manage people. He will not really do anything to help or assist until his supervisors look into his stores and what he does. He will shift blame onto any general manager he can, and if any district manager decides you are doing your job incorrectly or you need to adjust what you are doing, there will be little to no support in helping you become a better employee. It really can become a "popularity contest" when you work in store management. If you are a regular employee or shift lead, you won't really have any direct contact with district management.
