Pros

I really enjoyed the large-scale projects, clients and team. I grew very quickly being exposed to so much diversity in design styles and scope of work. It was nice to grow my knowledge in both construction and furniture, and I loved working with the team on complete home-furnishing installations.

Cons

Designing homes from start to finish requires a lot of knowledge and experience, plus you need to be able to keep track of a lot of moving parts. The caliber of the projects calls for high expectations both within and outside the firm.

Pros

I started with a design degree but not a lot of background, and was trained and promoted 3 times over 7 years. I loved working with the team who always helped each other. The projects are fun, the clients are really nice and the designs are really creative. There is a lot of variety to the styles of projects.

Cons

The clients expect a lot, and the pace is fast. You need to know how to stay organized and be able to work on multiple projects. Everything requires high attention to detail and cross checking your own work.

Pros

The projects themselves are high-end and interesting. If you’re looking for exposure to luxury residential design, that part is real.

Cons

The work environment is deeply toxic and entirely top-down. Input from staff is generally not welcomed; decisions come from ownership and you are expected to execute without question. The role was not what was represented during hiring, with responsibilities constantly shifting based on whatever ownership needed in the moment. Boundaries around time and communication are not respected, so expect last-minute requests at all hours and unclear expectations. There is no mentorship, no structure, and little to no professional respect for employees. Turnover is high and for good reason, coworkers are consistently unhappy and it shows. The off-boarding process was handled without basic professionalism or dignity.

We understand that not every role or work environment is the right fit for every individual. Spectrum Interior Design is a highly collaborative, fast paced luxury residential firm that holds a high standard for professionalism, communication, accountability, adaptability, and active team engagement. During this brief employment period, multiple efforts were made to connect regarding workflow, expectations, timelines, deliverables, and work progress, including requests for direct conversation that were declined. Ultimately, it became clear the role was not the right mutual fit. We are honored to serve the clientele we do and remain committed to building a positive, growth minded team of talented professionals who bring the experience they promise, communicate proactively, honor commitments, and take pride in delivering an elevated level of care and excellence. We are appreciative of the exceptional team members and collaborators who contribute to that culture every day and wish this individual the very best moving forward.
