Southern Insurance Underwriters

Is this your company?

Very disappointing and frustrating. - Underwriter Assistant Southern Insurance Underwriters Employee Review

Pros

They will hire just about anybody so if you are in need of a job, you can probably get hired to do something if you show a positive attitude.

Cons

There is a "Us" and "Them" attitude that is so pervasive I doubt it will ever change. There is very little respect shown for the employees as human beings. The executives even have a separate Christmas party. The employees get a little gathering in the lobby with a very small monetary "thank you". The pay is very low and below market rates so don't expect much on the paycheck. They complain if you take all the vacation time you've collected even though they make that a benefit. The worst is they don't even give you a personal dismissal or a reason. I know one case where they called someone over the phone after they left work and told them not to come back. It is an extremely unprofessional environment and you are not allowed to disagree with the executives on any topic. You work hard and get no thanks and little money.

Pros

If you’re good with time management and you don’t need a supervisor breathing down your neck to stay motivated than this is the place for you! Personal accountability is pretty big. Lots of on the job training. Southern Insurance Underwriters isn’t for everyone but can make a rewarding career for those who make the cut.

Cons

Communication could be better but it’s always getting better.

Pros

Somewhat of a work/life balance

Cons

The president is very greedy and pay is low compared to other Underwriting jobs. Your managers will be in meetings or work trips most all of the time. In theory that part seems cool but then the second business slows down You are the problem. Unless you are part of the inner circle good luck making a decent wage or moving up here. They are very creepy towards the females. Most people there are 50+ in age yet they like to hire young attractive women fresh out of college. The president frequently has younger girls in the work place or just in general babysit his kids. This kind of toxicity is rampant among managers and long time veterans of the company. Think twice before joining SIU
