Pros

Solid Ground's goals are varied but meaningful - ending homelessness, providing food resources, tenant education and support, ending behaviors leading to poverty and/or homelessness, operating Metro's ACCESS program for disabled individuals, political activism and advocacy, and promoting anti-racism initiatives are some of their many extremely positive programs. CEO Gordon McHenry, Jr took over in 2012 and has instituted many positive changes to programs and made a drastic overhaul to the organization's internal structure, but I believe his strongest contribution is his ability to make everyone feel like they're part of a team. He makes every single employee and client feel welcome and valued. Having worked for several non-profits, I can attest that those qualities are rare for a CEO. Their benefits are moderate but not spectacular, but their annual and sick leave policies are outstanding - very generous.

Cons

There aren't enough employees with industry understanding to effectively run many of their programs because the positions are so specialized and the wages they offer are lower than average. Many employees work far beyond 40 hours a week due to understaffing and poor program management.

Pros

- The staff were very involved and engaged with the work when I worked there. - There was a great community feel to the work where personnel tried their best to support each other and create a space that was stimulating. - Pay and benefits were very transparent. - Leadership typically made themselves accessible and were engaged as well as responsive when reached out to.

Cons

- It's a very political space because a core belief is that the personal is political. This ended up being overwhelming for some so I'd recommend developing and practicing strong boundaries around capacity and involvement.
