Pros

There are a few nice perks to working at Sol de Janeiro. Employees receive free products, which is a great bonus if you enjoy the brand. The office is stocked with free snacks, and they offer complimentary lunch once a week, along with breakfast on another day.

Cons

There are several serious concerns that impact the employee experience at Sol de Janeiro. A pervasive “mean girl” culture can be felt across various teams, contributing to a toxic and cliquish work environment. Bullying behavior often goes unchecked, and there is little sense of psychological safety. Upper management tends to be disconnected from day-to-day operations and provides minimal training, yet staff are still held accountable for tasks they haven’t been adequately prepared for. There’s also a noticeable lack of support or advocacy from leadership, which makes it difficult for employees to grow or feel valued. Over the past few years, the company culture has shifted dramatically—from collaborative and people-focused to being primarily profit-driven. Many of the individuals who fostered the original, family-like culture have left, and although the company is expanding rapidly, internal processes remain inconsistent and disorganized, much like a startup. Workload expectations are high, often exceeding what’s reasonable for the compensation offered. Many employees feel overworked and underpaid, which contributes to burnout and turnover. Additionally, there are ongoing concerns about HR not maintaining confidentiality, further eroding trust. Overall, there is a significant disconnect between upper management and staff, with a growing sense that leadership does not value or respect the contributions of their employees. STAY AWAY!!

Pros

- Beautiful office - Lunch/breakfast/happy hour once a week - Some of the most fun coworkers I’ve experienced

Cons

- In office 3 days for no reason with exemptions for some and not others - rude, disconnected leadership - leadership that think anything is possible and don’t respect boundaries of those that execute - some teams are VERY snobby and think they matter more than other teams - mass exodus over the last few months of people that grew the brand to where it is being replaced by newcomers who don’t listen or care to listen - there used to be workflows and process in place but the high turnover has made a mess
