Pros

They allow some time"on the bench". There are some very good people.

Despite working 8 hours with a client you are still expected to drive downtown for sales calls and then back with no compensation. They tell their employees anything to keep them happy. They told me they were trying to get me a closer position for 2 years - eventually the project was done and they never moved me. Then, when I left they offered a big raise "if they could get it approved". Later I floated coming back (when I left, on good terms, they said to let them know if I wanted to come back) and was told at an interview that the same amount they had previously "offered" was not realistic. Despite my having even more knowledge and experience. I often saw them build up one of their consultants to a customer and then throw them under the bus, assuming he would "sink or swim". Their bonus system is misleading. The amounts given are points based and they "allow" the selling back of PTO for points. So, even though you strive for excellent satisfaction scores for their points, near the end of December everyone sells back their PTO. This drops you down your bonus amount and saves the company from having to give PTO. The bonus pool is a set amount based on your percentage ranking with bonus points. They only have a single high deductible insurance option, although there are no premiums. Everyone at the corporate office claims that family is first but they have a different standard for the consultant employees who actually bring in the cash.

Pros

Great mentorship, great career development such as trainings, certifications, education reimbursement. It is a good place to expand your skills and managers will step in and help you understand how to navigate tricky situations especially when clients are difficult.

Cons

Low pay. They tell potential hires about "the bench" and how you can still get bench pay when you're not billing at a client while they look for your next opportunity. Increasingly, they lay people off, sometimes after only a few days or right as you hit the bench. Often ask you to work beyond normal 8-5 contracting hours to contribute to the company after a full day of billable work or doing additional trainings on your own time (nights, weekends, using your own PTO). Quite often they paint a rosy picture during monthly internal updates, so you think you're on track for your full bonus payout and then when the year closes, they say other offices didn't make their numbers so our bonuses are lower.
